Drone Racing

Drone Racing is open to middle and high school students, with the season starting in early February and finishing at the end of the school year. Practices are two nights per week, with competitions every few weeks. Students practice on both simulators (on a computer) and with microdrones as they fly in first person view using goggles. We plan to have both virtual and in-person competitions. Coached by instructors Dave Tess and Chris Maki, this activity gives students an opportunity to improve at a specific skill while having some fun competing!

During the inaugural season (2020-2021) a four-pilot team placed second in state and a two-pilot team placed fourth. SCLA drone flyers will build on what they have learned to improve their skills with the goal of reaching the state championship.
